Make Your Own Water Bead Stress Ball
Most of us love to periodically squeeze a stress ball or some other shape throughout our work day. You’re going to learn how to Make Your Own Water Bead Stress Ball. Granted this craft is geared towards the kids, but there’s nothing saying you can’t make one as well! I made one with my little lady, not gonna lie.
If you have any children in the home who are young and put things in their mouths, DO NOT proceed with this project. Water beads are not edible or safe for swallowing.

What you need to Make Your Own Water Bead Stress Ball
- Orbeez
- Thick balloon
- Mini bottle of water
- Bowl
- Scissors
- Small tipped funnel (optional)
- Full lungs
Directions
If you bought the bulk bucket of Orbeez® you will pour approximately .35 oz or 2 tsp. of the beads into a bowl.
Take your mini bottle of water (save the bottle, you’ll need it later) and pour the contents into the bowl and let the beads soak for at least 4 hours, but up to 24 hours. Once they’ve reached full size then you’re ready to make your stress ball!! Also – there shouldn’t be more than a couple of tablespoons of water left. Just drain it. Until they look like this.
If you have a small funnel with a narrow opening then you can use that to put your beads back into that mini water bottle.
Take a balloon and blow it up to twice the size you want the stress ball to ultimately be. Squeeze (pinch off) it to hold the air in while leaving enough tail to stretch over the water bottle. Simply flip the bottle upside down so that the beads dump into the balloon. If you used a clear balloon the colors will be great. In the event you only had a colored one it will look like ours (the red one on the right).
Drain any extra water that may be left in the balloon and let the air out until it’s snug around beads and tie off making sure to double-knot.
That’s it! You’ve made your first of many stress balls (I hope). It should last about 2 weeks before the beads start to break down. That is unless you have a child that pokes it one too many times with her fingernails (🙋♀️), in which case it may only last a few days.
