National Cuban Sandwich Day
Did somebody say National Cuban Sandwich Day? That’s what I thought, mmmm-mmmmm! Today, August 23, 2022, we celebrate a sandwich that originated in Cuba. The Cubano originated there, it actually found success in The States. Florida to be exact.

What exactly is a Cuban Sandwich?
#NationalCubanSandwichDay celebrates the Cubano, which traditionally consists of ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on Cuban bread. You could also compliment it with a salad, sweet potatoes (prepared any way you like), pickles, or a mango coleslaw (my personal favorite).

National Cuban Sandwich Day History
In 2016, Journalist, Christopher Spata of Tampa Bay Times set out to make his mark in the National Food Holiday game. In his research, he discovered that August 23rd had only one other food celebrated on that day. He decided to make his mark with the Cuban Sandwich and it has made it around the world, let alone the nation. He stated that National Sponge Cake Day was nothing to get excited about. He’s obviously never tried sponge cake or he wouldn’t feel that way! At the very least, he’s never had a good one. For that, I am sorry.
