July 30th is National Cheesecake Day
Whoa! This is one I can particularly get down with! Love me some cheesecake, yummo! So let’s see if there is any history or story to go with this one, shall we?
From what I can gather, our story starts in ancient Greece. There was, apparently, a form of this delectable dessert served to the athletes. I imagine this was for the heavy, tummy-filling energy needed to compete. It has been found that the earliest mention of cheesecake, in the form of writing, was by a Greek physician by the name of Aegimus. The book was solely intended to describe the art of making cheesecake. The first ever Greek Olympic Games were held in 776 while the book was “published” sometime in the 5th (401-500). This means that cheesecake was loved at least 276 years before it was ever served at the first Olympic Games.
So if you’re looking to celebrate #NationalCheesecakeDay then you can make one or buy one if time is of the essence.
