National Massachusetts Day

Springfield, Massachusetts, USA downtown skyline on the river at dusk.

National Massachusetts Day is not my favorite, however some of my favorite people may or may not live there (hypothetically, my son <3). There are some really beautiful parts of Massachusetts along Routes 8 and 20. Route 8 runs through the Berkshires and Route 20 is infamous for its antiques.

Bucket list of Massachusetts

  • The Mohawk Trail
  • Brimfield Barn Antiques
  • BoSox game
  • The Berkshires
  • Old Sturbridge Village
  • Springfield Fair/The Big E
  • Plymouth Rock
  • Patriots game
  • Battleship Cove
  • Edaville Railroad
  • Purgatory Chasm
  • Mount Monadnock
  • Boston Museum of Science
  • Boston Aquarium
  • Whale watching in Sandwich (there’s also an antique car museum)

I have personally done all of the above things and recommend them all (with the exception of the games as I’m not a sports fan). There are probably many more items that could be on this list, but I haven’t personally done them. Growing up in a neighboring state made for many school field trips to many of the places and the rest were on family vacations. There’s plenty to do and see in honor of National Massachusetts Day.

When we decided to celebrate each state as they entered the union, we meant all of them. Massachusetts was the first New England Colony and the sixth state to join the Union. It has the greatest history attached to it as it’s the founding land of the country we know today. It’s always been here but was unknown to the Puritan settlers who landed at Plymouth Rock. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated there. There was the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s midnight run, The Sons of Liberty, Squanto (friend of the Pilgrims), Bunker Hill, and so many others.

I guess there is quite a bit I really do like about Massachusetts.

If you missed yesterday’s post, as always, you can find it here.
