National Respect for Parents Day
Contents
August 1st is National Respect for Parents Day
Now here is a subject that should be near and dear to every one of us. Either because we are parents or because we have parents. #RespectforParentsDay is in recognition of our own parents, ourselves as parents, and even friends that we think are great parents.
Parents are EVERYTHING to their children. They are their source of nourishment, love, security, learning, warmth, and shelter. To be a parent isn’t merely giving birth or being a male donor. It’s the behavior one exhibits after the child is born. We are to demonstrate all of the characteristics mentioned above and then some. Above all, we are to do it with great love and understanding. This makes a parent, not simply birthing a child. These are the parents to which we dedicate this day.
How can you show respect to your favorite parent(s)?
- Call them up and simply say “Thank you” for all that you do. Again, this doesn’t necessarily have to be your parent. It could be a parent that you admire.
- Invite them out or over for dinner in honor of the respect you have for them.
- Offer assistance in cleaning or running errands.
- Thank them for who you have become.
- Buy a special gift that’s specific to them.
- Ask them something about themselves and their memories of their own childhood.

A Brief History
Marilyn Dalrymple from Lancaster, CA, created #RespectForParentsDay , which is celebrated each year on August 1st. You can also sign the proclamation written by Mrs. Dalrymple. I have tried finding some additional information about Mrs. Dalrymple, but she seems to be pretty elusive. If you find any additional information, please let me know!
Some additional items for celebration today:
- National Girlfriends Day
- National Mahjong Day
- National Minority Donor Awareness Day
- National Raspberry Cream Pie Day
