National Soft Ice Cream Day

Spread the love

National Soft Ice Cream Day is definitely going to be celebrated pretty hard this year. It’s been so hot and humid with no reprieve! Why must we get older and suffer from the heat at such a great rate? I don’t remember this from my younger years. The heat was a good thing back then.

How was soft ice cream invented?

This is a storybook type of invention as it was completely by mistake. The story begins with a name we all know and love.

The story goes that back in 1934, Steve Carvel was driving through Hartsdale, New York, with his ice cream truck when he got a flat tire. After pulling said ice cream truck into a parking lot, the man knew his ice cream was melting. Being the businessman that he was, Tom decided to take advantage of the vacationers that were driving by. He sold them the melting ice cream and they absolutely loved it! The potential for a new business venture did not escape the smart man. Instead of driving to the customers, he could have a stationary store, and the customers could come to him.

What a brilliant idea! So, two years later, Carvel set up shop in the same spot where he had his flat tire and sudden epiphany two years earlier. In those two years, he patented a low-temperature ice cream machine and a secret formula for ice cream.

And whenever you have something extremely amazing, there is never a shortage of others willing to steal your idea. That’s just what happened. Similar businesses started cropping up. The rest, as they say, is history.

What better way to go out and celebrate National Soft Ice Cream Day than getting in your car and grabbing some at the local dairy bar? Go on now! What are you waiting for?
