Best Peach Pie Recipe Ever
Have you ever been to a restaurant and wondered how you can make a particular dessert yourself? This is one that is relatively easy. It just takes a little time to prep. If you want delicious then you must be willing to put in the time. The best peaches to use are known as yellow peaches. There are many varieties to choose from, but Reliance (early season) Sweet Star (mid-season), and Encore (late season). What makes all three of these varieties even better is that they are what’s known as “freestone” peaches. What this means is that the flesh comes away from the stone easily. The other type is called a “clingstone” and I bet you can guess why. They do not easily separate from the flesh making it more time-consuming to prep for a pie. Peach Pie
Ingredients
- ⅔ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 6 cups fresh peaches*
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp butter*
* substitutions
- 6 cups frozen and sliced peaches, partially thawed and drained.
- spreads with at least 65% vegetable oil can be substituted
Instructions
- Heat oven to 425°
- Mix sugar, flour and cinnamon in large bowl. Stir in peaches and lemon juice. Turn into pastry-lined pie dish. Dot with butter. Cover with top pastry that has slits cut in it, seal and flute. Cover edge with a pie crust saver or 2-3" wide strip of foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove during the last 15 minutes of baking.
- Bake about 45 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through the slits in crust. Cool in pie dish on wire rack. Serve warm if desired. Add ice cream for a more diverse dessert.
