How to Make a Floral Mandala Art Kids Craft

Spread the love

This is a fun post that my daughter was so excited to participate in today. She loves to create and what a pretty project to make her own. Mandala is also known as “The Flower of Life” and is usually made of numerous circles. Of course, letting a child make the floral mandala art isn’t going to have the same effect as an adult making one.

So let’s look at the backstory/origin of the mandala, shall we?

“A mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Asian cultures. It can be understood in two different ways: externally as a visual representation of the universe or internally as a guide for several practices that take place in many Asian traditions, including meditation. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the belief is that by entering the mandala and proceeding towards its center, you are guided through the cosmic process of transforming the universe from one of suffering into one of joy and happiness.”

There are three types of Mandalas; Teaching, Healing, and Sand. You can find more information on them here.

❁ Tape

❁ Scissors

❁ Pencil

❁ 2 Pieces of Contact Paper (same size as the finished circle)

❁Construction Paper

❁ Assortment of flowers and herbs

❁Circular object to trace (I used plates)

  1. Trace your circular objects onto your construction paper. This will be the frame of your mandala.
  2. Cut the shape out (inner and outer circles) so that it looks like a circular frame.
  3. Place your frame on the contact paper carefully as it is very sticky.
  4. Next, Place your gathered flowers in the center of the frame in any fashion you prefer.
  5. Once you’re satisfied with your placement you can then add the top piece of contact paper.
  6. Finally, your masterpiece in a window for all to admire!
  7. Download the instructions with photos below.

This project was originally from the nurturestore website, but I duplicated their project instructions to include our own photos and to make it a little easier to read.
